who loves me enough...
Monday, August 26, 2013
goddamnit, #thombrowne ...
that sentence ends in "i love you," because the more thom browne i see on the runway, the more i love him.
working in an arguably "accessible" menswear environment, i tend to gravitate toward the more wearable runway fare for everyday purposes, mostly to get the point across with as few what-the-fuck-style faces as possible. which is why it's so refreshing to see actual art on the runway. you won't see this little gem in barney's anytime soon, because this is a showcase of aesthetic, not a catalog pre-order.
not that i at all dislike thom browne's in-store line, because i consistently love his suits.
but this is about expression and doing exactly what he feels like doing. his past several seasons have been satirical juxtaposition of masculinity and femininity, smashed together in a somewhat comical but no less serious manner, and he's dead on every time.
he's made me add a qualifying "except when thom browne does it" clause to more than one statement. por ejemplo: "I hate nautical..." or "Clown plaid looks stupid..." (though, to be fair, i can say the same for gaultier in regard to the former.)
so my point is this: i love you, thom browne, whether you are over-plaid-ing or shoulder-padding or tacking on a little something to protect those crown jewels -- i freaking love you.
so i leave you with this link to my pinterest board of some favorites from SS14.

photos from fashion cited
here are a few great photos from the event last night! thanks to everyone who came out, and to all the models who strutted their stuff in my designs. i was blown away by the response to my work!
fashion Cited, Pin Show Grant, D Magazine, and more!
well, yomono's momentum this year has been as unstoppable as the tenacious texas armadillo! enjoy the visual. you're welcome.
so Fashion Cited was a big success! pictures to follow. the venue was amazing, complete with an airplane suspended above the stage, and i networked with a lot of other unbelievably talented local designers. not to mention the gorgeous models who breathed life into my collection on the runway. thanks, ladies!
in other news, i've been awarded a grant from The Pin Show! i'm giddy with excitement, and i can't wait to drop my ready-to-wear collection for FW12. stay tuned for more custom corset and dress listings on my etsy shop, and some great summer garb at IndieGenius.
also, make sure you watch for my feature in the may issue of D Magazine! yet another honor by which i am extremely humbled.
and the Urban Bazaar is coming up next month at IndieGenius, so don't miss that! trust me, you will regret it if you don't stop by. i'm there as a seller and i still can't walk away without buying something.
last but not least, please check out my work at Art is Art Consignments, where i am the artist of the month for march!

mention on D mag's style sheet
well, lookie here... i got a mention on D magazine's style sheet from The Pin Show!

great shot of my "olivia" corset from the back. this corset is completely steel boned, fan-laced, and made from upcycled and organic materials. that herringbone used to be a mens pant.

recent happenings @ yomono
wow, what an incredible couple of weeks here at yomono! i'm just finishing up pin show prep, and i've already got some exciting new developments to announce. next month is going to be inundated with tasty yomono goodness. during march, i'm going to be the artist of the month at ARTisART Consignments! so come by for more gloves, bags, and fresh indie handmade style.
then, on march 22nd join me for Fashion CITED: A Style Event. this fashion show benefits the Legal Hospice of Texas, who do some amazing work for low-income individuals diagnosed with terminal illnesses. tickets are $50 and go to a great cause. there is a link to buy on the Fashion Cited website.
so if you thirst for more yomono, then the next 6 weeks are going to be sweet like honey. (or agave, for those of us who don't eat animal products.)
what's that? you demand a sneak peak? well, ok...but shhhhhh! it's a secret!
